i was rummaging through my cds, and found distant thunder by checkfield, an early american gramaphone records cd circa 1987.
the recording is not unlistenable, but fatigue can set in by the time the album is played through.
this was a ultra high end recording for the time.
anyway, i hear that distinct cd edginess on the highs (say above about 5 khz), even though the music is pretty laid back stuff.
while not my oldest cd, there are no "drop outs or deteriation" that i can detect....i am talking about the idea that cds fall apart somehow after 15 years as i have heard said on the net. not true in this case.
still "edgy" after all these years!

IMO, early digital recording was a bit primitive by today's standards. Today's digital sound is quite a bit more refined while being also detailed.
Also, IMO late analogue, c. 1979, was hard to beat.

Without music, life would be a mistake.

yes, as always, really also depends a lot on the recording equipment and recording engineers ears, as telarc cds from even a few years earlier sound fine to me to this day, california project papa doo run run, cd-70501 recorded in 1985 is superb!
