World's Most Expensive Speakers

Here's an interesting link to an article by Robert Harley about the world's most expensive loudspeakers. If this is "High End," then I don't know what "end" I'm on!

No, the $158,000/pair Wilson X2's don't even come close.

When I read your thread I thought "oh, yeah, the $1m Kharma Grand Enigma is the most expensive."
I didn't know there was a $2m pair of ribbon hybrids above it!!
The million dollar Kharmas still boost my ego as Kharma owner, though

If you're curious to see what $100K+ speakers look like, check out the following link:

Forch,
I think I'd go with the Steinway Lyngdorf Model C for a mere $148,000.
http://www.higherfi.com/spkrlist/steinway_lyngdorf_model_c.jpg
More than just a speaker system, the Model C is a complete music system including amplifiers, digital processors, CD player, and a system controller. It also includes all the necessary cabling. Additional digital and analog inputs are also provided.

For 2 million dollars, I could afford to build a very nice venue and have my own real live symphony!

For cost no object, I'd strongly consider the Rockport Arrakis loudspeakers, if I couldn't have my full range ESLs. At $165,000/pair they are by no means the most expensive on the list. With the room and associated equipment, the total would be over half a million, though. And I'd want one of his System V Sirius turntables, assuming he gets around to building them.

I think I like No Regrets' idea best--build a venue!
Might have some trouble hiring some of my favorite bands to play though, seeing as how most of them are defunct or dead

What good are million dollar speakers if your listening room sucks hind tit? For that kind of money I'd build the ideal listening room, construct a house around it, and then buy the speakers, etc. with the money left over.

Eh, but rooms are such a PITA...how about a personal amphitheater?

Raggy,
Given the choice, I'd rather deal with the acoustical problems of a well-proportioned listening room than deal with the echo and time delay problems of an auditorium. Plus, how would you duplicate the sound absorbing properties of an audience of 500-1,000 people?

What about building a nice amphitheater, designed with classic Roman proportions etc.
I'll never forget the acoustics at the Ephesus amphitheater, you could be sitting on the back row and hear clearly a conversation between people on the stage 150 or so yards away. The seats were kinda hard on the buttocks though
So, a nice Summer project for someone ?

I dunno man, the cost of the hill-building plus all the other labor and materials involved might run you pretty well past 2mil
Docman, for an amphitheater (think the Oshkosh Leach, not so much a proper Roman one!) you only really only have the stage's back wall and stage roof/shell to contend with, at least it's open from the speakers on! Far as simulating the bodies...how about some specially bred grass/foliage and very carefully prepared and maintained soil under it all?
You do it with enough left over for those Grand Enigmas (or maybe a top-line Meyer Sound system)

Raggy,
I see your problem, if you're going with the Grand Enigmas you'll be needing a room the size of a small auditorium.

Yeah, I don't think my 11x12 room will quite work for those
Maybe it's my ongoing acoustic woes, but the idea of getting rid of most or all walls in a listening area really appeals to me!
Question...what sources and cabling does one use with million dollar speakers? I'm thinking my $200 Marantz CD player might be a little underqualified for the position
